ABO is pleased to announce the location and dates of the 2025 Summit!

ABO Summit 2025 will be held at Arizona State University Student Union in Tempe, Arizona on October 19-21, 2025! Our Summit Planning committee will commence working on an agenda in early March so stay tuned for updates on Abstract submission deadlines and early bird registration.

New this year: We will not have a dedicated Summit hotel (with block of rooms) so we will be announcing area hotels so you can reserve hotel rooms early. Fortunately, there are lots of hotel options in the Phoenix/Tempe market to accommodate all price ranges and requirements. We are looking at having one track (with no breakout sessions) this year.

Thank you for your patience with our announcement. This year’s Summit should be exceptional!

Other key updates: ABO’s government relations committee, the Executive Policy Committee, has been officially re-launched. We held our first official call on December 18th and will be scheduling monthly calls going forward. Tiffany Cannis from Global Algae Innovations has graciously agreed to serve as the Chair of this committee. We have had conversations with Rep. Peters office about outreach to key congresspeople to serve on the re-launched, Algae Caucus and will be working to plan a D.C. fly in for later in the year. If you are interested in participating in this committee, please email me directly at jkallen@algaebiomass.org.

We have locked in presenters for ABO’s monthly Webinar Series. Starting this month, we will hear from member companies/organizations showcasing their projects, company updates and or technologies. See below for details on upcoming webinars.

Membership invoices for 2025 were sent out in December. ABO is a member supported organization, and we need all members to promptly return their membership dues – thank you! If you have any questions or concerns, email me directly at jkallen@algaebiomass.org.

The Algae Biomass Organization is pleased to welcome our newest Bronze Member, Ful Foods

FUL Foods is an Amsterdam-based nutrition innovation company developing ingredients and products from spirulina through a proprietary biorefinery process. The company recently launched in the U.S. and is now ramping up commercial activities focusing on sales of their naturally blue powder and sparkling waters. The company also recently closed a funding round and filed a patent on a protein fraction extraction.

Ful Foods is excited to become a member of ABO and is specifically seeking to partner with other companies to pursue federal funding in the microalgae cultivation sector or with factories with high CO2 emissions that want to revalorize CO2. The company is also looking for seasoned principal investigators with experience in several funding schemes.

    Member News and Updates

Collaboration Opportunities with the Department of Chemical Engineering at the State of University of New York-Environmental Science and Forestry is currently looking for partnerships and assistance in the following areas:

Provision of Bulk Samples: We are interested in acquiring bulk samples of Spirulina, Haematococcus, Chlorella, or Scenedesmus for our research projects.

Supply of Live Strains: Access to live cultures of any of the above-mentioned microalgae would greatly benefit our ongoing studies.

Collaborative Lab-Scale Studies: We are eager to collaborate on lab-scale projects involving parent or genetically modified strains. Our focus includes optimizing culture conditions for growth, enhancing metabolite production, or increasing CO2 uptake on a lab scale.

SUNY-ESF is committed to acknowledging any contributing companies or researchers in resulting publications, and if collaborative efforts are established, we would include co-authors from partner teams. We understand that some collaborators may prefer anonymity, and we are open to agreements that maintain confidentiality regarding their identities.

We have experience working with industry partners to optimize processes and technologies for genetically modified strains under such terms. If you or someone within your network would be interested in working with us or can provide the samples or strains mentioned above, I would be grateful to connect.
